We all know Zara and Mango, but Spain’s fashion industry has much more to offer than just fast fashion items that will probably not be on the store’s shelves within a week. In a world dominated by rapidly consumed fashion, I would like to shift the attention to other up and coming brands that instead bet for originality, sustainability, and creativity. For this week’s post, I selected a few Spanish brands that I really like, whether that’s because of their values, their designs or their craftsmanship.
Clothes
Clothes are (obviously) the base of any look; they showcase how we feel that day and how we want to express ourselves. Finding brands that reflect your style is not an easy task, but I present to you three of my top-picks.
eseOese
Starting off strong with one of my long time favorites, eseOese was founded back in 1988 and opened its first store in Barcelona. Their clothes are extremely high quality and the attention to detail in the making of each item is evident. They have a chic and rustic vibe that makes them stand out from the rest and that I absolutely adore. The brand is strongly committed to sustainability; it sources most of its materials from local suppliers (over 68%) and uses FSC certified packaging. Yet, sustainability goes far beyond what happens today, it’s also about the future of what we buy. At eseOese, the exceptional fabric they use and timeless designs, ensures that you will continue to wear their pieces for years to come, not just this season. You can visit their website here.
Basyco Jerez
I first discovered Basyco Jerez when I needed a dress for a special event around three years ago and I quickly fell in love. The brand stands out for its bold colors and designs that brighten up any outfit. They offer adorable clothes for every occasion, from a wedding, to a formal event, or just for your day to day, all at an affordable price. If you haven’t checked their clothes yet, you are missing out! Be careful though, you’ll want to buy it all. You can visit their website here.
La Comet
La Comet is also based in Barcelona and sells gorgeous pieces with incredibly curated patterns. Their stylish clothes are perfect for the Spring: with flower motifs and a flowing aesthetic I just can’t get enough of. I recently purchased one of their padded jackets and have gotten so many compliments every time I wear it. La Comet is also heavily devoted to being as environmentally conscious as possible; they use sustainable fabrics and work with local suppliers among other great initiatives. You can visit their website here.
Shoes
Carrie Bradshaw once said “shoes are the most important thing. Good shoes take you good places”. And there are two Spanish brands that really know how to make comfortable, beautiful, and well-crafted shoes to take you to those wonderful places.
Flabelus
The first pair of Flabelus was born in July 2020 and since then, I’ve seen them all over social media, and the street. They have become the it shoes, not just a fleeting trend, but a part of a new movement inspired by the classic Spanish espadrille. Aside from being incredibly fashionable, they are also very comfortable and look good with everything. Flabelus has different designs including the famous Mary Janes or the iconic slippers. The brand offers a variety of stunning color combinations to suit every taste. They also released a version of their Mary Janes with studs called Mae that I simply love! You can visit their website here.
Un paso más
Un paso más was founded in 2012 in Barcelona and has since been offering women the perfect shoe for every occasion. The brand is well know for its high quality boots and heels that are simply perfect and dazzling. Their shoes are produced in Spain and Italy, drawing inspiration from Italian design. For a party I had last year, I bought a pair of golden high heels that not only looked incredible, but they were also comfortable and made for dancing all night long. You can visit their website here.
Accessories
It is no secret that accessories can change a whole outfit and make you look more put together, whether that’s through jewelry, styling bags or even hair clips1.
PDPAOLA
Rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets… all perfectly done by PDPAOLA, a Spanish brand that has mastered the art of jewelry-making. Founded in 2016 by two siblings, Paola and Humbert, this company keeps growing year after year, and it’s no surprise. Their clever campaigns, gorgeous accessories, and stunning designs are a few of the secrets to their success. Their latest drop is no exception. They collaborated with Kelly Rutherford, the queen herself, to create an exceptional collection of fine jewelry pieces that look so elegant and chic. You can visit their website here.
Lonbali
Last, but not least, an outfit isn’t complete without a good bag, and Lonbali knows that. The founders were inspired by their travels around the world and created an accessories brand that is now all over Spain, and keeps expanding. Their designs range from classics to bold new color combinations and patterns, one for everybody. Lonbali’s bestseller is the perfect everyday bag, whether you’re going to work, class, or hanging out with your friends. You can visit their website here.
Buying from smaller companies is always a good idea and the Spanish fashion scene has a lot to showcase. Even though prices might be higher than your go-to fast fashion stores, making such an investment is worth it, because of their high quality, ethical production, and originality. I hope you enjoyed this week’s post ❤️ Comment what your favorite less-known brand is, I would love to check it out! Make sure to subscribe if you haven’t already, on se voit la semaine prochaine!
This week’s recommendation
Back in 2019, I had the amazing opportunity to attend an Ed Sheeran concert and I was left in awe. The singer is incredibly talented and had the whole stadium at his feet. As opposed to other concerts I’ve had the chance to go to (all incredible too), Sheeran did it all on his own with the help of a looping station. Last week, he stopped by The Tonight Show and showed Jimmy Fallon how he builds entire songs in seconds using this cool music device. I highly recommend you check out the video, it’s truly impressive!
Lovely post! With regards to this week’s recommendation, Ed Sheeran has released a new song called “Azizam” and I actually quite like it, he was probably promoting it on The Tonight Show. Check it out! 🎶
Such a brilliant review of all the brands. I enjoyed reading this.
On a lighter note, eseOese means Thank you o thank you in my local dialect. We write it as, Ese o ese though😄
